Principal's Message

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Welcome to Elgin St. Public School. I am very proud to be the Principal of our small, yet vibrant, community oriented, K-6 French Immersion school of approximately 331 amazing students and 37 committed, professional staff.

We are located in the heart of the city, minutes from city hall and Canada's houses of parliament. This unique location allows for fulsome learning opportunities in and around the city such as trips to nearby museums, local middle and high schools, nearby universities, art museums, and local businesses among others. We offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs to enrich our students' learning experience.

Elgin St. recently celebrated its 125th anniversary making it one of the oldest schools in Ottawa. We enjoy a partnership with (and are physically attached to) Jack Purcell Community Centre which allows us to offer supplemental swimming lessons to our students.

We also have a very active School Council which helps raise several thousand dollars each year through an annual book sale, movie nights and other fundraisers to provide a supplemental arts program for our students.  This entails local artists providing visual arts, drama and music workshops and presentations to all of our students.

Elgin is a small school with a big heart that strives to help all students achieve academic success, physical and mental well being and general happiness through a rich, diverse and caring learning environment. We look forward to working with you.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me here at the school (613-239-2231) or via email ([email protected]).
